Mi Cultura

Velvety lips, red ribbons, and traditional Mexican braids, these women were the first to bring my culture into my art.

Magdalena and Rosa María were born from pride, the desire to honor where I come from and the traditions that shaped me. I grew up dancing Ballet Folklórico, first as a student, then as an educator, and it remains a defining and joyful part of my life. The red lips and braids pay tribute to that spirit, strength, and beauty.

The core of my work is present throughout my series and removing judgement is always key. With no eyes or ears, we are left with softness of velvet. the texture of ribbons between your fingers. Beauty, this work insists, is not always seen or heard. Sometimes it is simply, deeply, felt.
